Dental Fillings

Dental Fillings An Overview

Dental fillings are one of the most common dental procedures performed in our Baltimore dentist office. They are recommended to close spaces or address tooth damage caused by cavities, cracked, broken or worn down teeth. Dental fillings restore the integrity of the tooth and prevent bacteria from entering, causing further tooth decay.

At Canton Dental Associates, our dentists place dental fillings for patients of all ages. In most cases, we recommend composite resin, or “white” fillings for a safe, durable and aesthetically pleasing result. Addressing cavities, cracked or broken teeth when they are identified may prevent complex and costly future procedures.

We can place your old, dark and crumbling fillings with composite resin fillings, often providing an instant smile makeover if fillings were placed in the smile zone.

Routine Dentistry and Cavity Prevention

Maintaining the health of your teeth and gums through routine preventive dental care is the key to avoiding complex dental problems and deteriorating oral health. When you visit with us regularly, your dentist and hygienist can spot developing dental concerns in the early stages, when conservative care is effective.

Tooth decay affects patients at any age and if not treated promptly, leads to damage, gum disease and even tooth loss. If you are prone to tooth decay and cavities, we will provide personalized oral hygiene advice and treatment recommendations for reducing your risk.

Dental Fillings What to Expect

The warm and compassionate staff at Canton Dental Associates will ensure your comfort before, during and after your dental filling procedure. Patients should expect little to no discomfort with the use of a local anesthetic. If you experience dental anxiety, we offer sedation options for complete relaxation during treatment.

Canton Dental Associates relies on state-of-the-art technology and procedures that maximize results and minimize discomfort. First, a topical anesthetic will be applied to numb the affected area. Next, the decay will be removed. The affected area will be filled with a porcelain or composite resin filling that is matched to the natural color of your teeth. The dentist will then examine the alignment of your teeth to ensure a comfortable bite.

For larger cavities or for cavities located on back teeth, the team at Canton Dental Associates may recommend inlays, onlays, or crowns. These can be custom-fitted in a single visit using CEREC and create a natural, long-lasting result.
